California Q

Abstract

The present paper focuses on the usage of Q-Methodology in psychological assessment, centering mainly on the California Q as a specific psychodiagnostic tool with highly qualitative outputs in personality assessment. Besides some of the rather methodological and epistemological background issues regarding the usage of Q-Methodology in psychological research - among others the non-classical and different perspective of the California Q on self-reported personality measures vs. personality measures reported by external observers, and the unusual outlook on the necessity of standardized measures in personality assessment – the article tackles the objective of describing the California Q, its construction, consistency, usage and proven utility.
